Overview: Collaboration = High School Media Specialists and College Librarians Working Together
Learn about how librarians in one FL County developed a plan for collaboration between academic and school librarians in order to improve information literacy skills for students from 9th grade to college graduation. With an increase of Dual Enrollment (DE) opportunities, colleges and universities are seeing an influx of high school students as patrons. Some of them take DE courses in their high schools and never set foot in the college campus. How can academic librarians reach their younger new patrons more effectively? And how can media specialists make sure their students are college-ready?
In this webinar we will show one example of collaboration, including events, meetings, and online support for the information literacy needs of Dual Enrolled students and high school students and teachers, and we will open up the discussion for sharing your experiences and ideas.
· Learn about how to develop a plan of collaboration between academic and school librarians, including planning, implementation, and revisions;
· Share advice, experiences, and ideas that explore other ways to reach out to colleagues in different types of libraries.
Alicia K. Long was Outreach Specialist for the past few years and is now the program liaison for Dual Enrolled students at SCF. In addition to general reference and instruction services, she also coordinates services for the campus’ Collegiate School (6th-12th grades) and curates the Young Adult collection of the SCF Libraries.
