Criteria for Evaluation of Proposals

Thank you for your interest in presenting at the 2021 NEFLIN Technology Conference!

NEFLIN is looking for:

  • NEFLIN is seeking proposals that address the question “How can we use technology to create the future for libraries?”
  • Incorporated technical content! Our conference covers technology appropriate for library staff at all levels of expertise; beginner, intermediate, and advanced.
  • Audience participation! Think beyond traditional lectures and engage your audience. Our goal is to make this conference as interactive as possible.
  • Relevance to a diverse library audience! NEFLIN members come from libraries and positions of all types. This conference strives to meet the needs of large university libraries, small-town rural public, and school libraries as well as special libraries. Library staff encompasses the novice/beginning technology user as well as the advanced/expert technology librarians.
  • Impact! Your proposal should add to the conversation around current technology, relevant challenges, digital equity, digital citizenship, teacher leadership, and library-wide approaches to technology integration. Sessions that explore how all types of libraries are being impacted by technology, or how existing technologies are being used by libraries in new or unique ways are of particular interest.
  • Issues receiving attention in the broader world! Have some insight into new topics only now starting to impact libraries? We are interested in hearing about new ideas, perhaps those which have not yet begun to impact libraries, but most likely soon will.


When you are ready to complete the Online Proposal Form you will need:

  • Proposal Title – Your title should help attendees easily understand the topic of your session. Please use title case (limit 12 words).
  • Description – Provide a brief but detailed description of your session. Describe learning objectives and outcomes (i.e., what will participants know and be able to do as a result of their participation, or what specific skills will be introduced and practiced). Be as specific as possible (300 words or less).
  • Skill Level – Decide ahead of time who your session will most appeal to:
    • Beginner – limited experience or prior topic knowledge; no prerequisite skills required
    • Intermediate – basic core competency or knowledge of the topic; some prerequisite skills or knowledge required.
    • Advanced – considerable experience or advanced knowledge of the topic; significant prerequisite skills or knowledge required.

In summary, you should:

  • Indicate what participants will learn.
  • Be detailed in the purpose and objectives of your session.
  • Outline the content covered and the process for engaging participants fully.
  • Know and understand your format structure.

You are encouraged to present up to two different topics during the conference’s concurrent breakout sessions. Each session is 45 minutes in length, including time for Q&A. Access the Online Proposal Form.

If your proposal is chosen you will be notified by the end of February. We will send acceptance and regret notifications via email to the primary contact submitted in the proposal. Any Co-presenter information will be collected upon acceptance of proposals.
